WEDDING MAKEUP- Should I wear false lashes on my big day?
A lot of brides-to-be I speak to aren’t always sure about whether to wear false lashes or not on their big day.
Although many people swear by them, a lot of women don’t wear false eyelashes in everyday life, and therefore feel they may be a little ‘extra’ for their wedding day.
HOWEVER, if there is one day that you can be a little more extra and get away with it- it’s your wedding day. And false lashes don’t always equate to extra!
The benefits of false lashes
Beyond enhancing the way you look in pictures, false eyelashes are sweat-proof, tear-proof and will last you all day and night!
Still not sure? False eyelashes look AMAZING in photos; thicker, more lush, full, sexy, glamorous … and not at all drag-like if that’s what you’re concerned about. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, if that’s your vibe. But if you're after a more natural look rather than drag, there are MANY options for you.
How to keep them looking natural
There are some great strip lashes and individual lashes around that look really natural and subtly bring you that extra lash line definition that we NEED on our wedding day. Why? Because you want your lashes to show up in your wedding photos.
Because a lot of your photos will be taken as a half body shot or full length portrait, lashes can get lost the further away the camera is. So to make you peepers look bigger in photos and stand out, we want that lash line to really POP.
Choosing the right lashes for you
Rather than get overwhelmed when deciding what kind of lash, ask yourself what look you are going for on your wedding day. Your lashes should make sense with your overall wedding-day style.
Your makeup artist will be also be able to guide you on the best shape for your eye and the best style depdning on what results you want, from natural to glamorous to full drama!
At Killer Queen we include strip or individual lashes for brides and all members of the bridal party in our pricing- both for your big day and for your trial. If you want to bring your own magnetic lashes so you can re-use them after your wedding day, that's totally fine!
We’d be happy to apply them just right for you and give you tips on cleaning and storing them after your wedding so you can wear them again and again.
Not sure? Test them out
And our biggest tip, if you’re still not sure? Try some out on the day of your makeup trial. See how they feel, how long it takes them to settle and for you to get used to them. They shouldn’t be iritating, but they may be a little tickly.
They should feel light, fluttery and barely there, but they should also feeel secure if you accidentally brush them or knock them. You shouldn’t feel like they’re getting into your eyes or obstructing your vision (if they are, they’re not on right).
Test them out over the course of the afternoon/ evening and make sure they pass the cry/ laugh test if you can.
Snap some selfies after your trial so you can see how the lashes will look in pictures- they look a bit different and a lot more subtle in a photo so it’s good to see the difference.
Take notes if you need to. Maybe the lashes are just a tad too long and you can see them every time you blink and it’s annoying you. Or they maybe get in the way of your veil. Don’t be afraid to let you makeup artist know- they would be happy to adjust them to suit and you may just need a smaller pair that aren’t as long.
And if you find you just can’t get used to them or they’re too annoying? You can always opt not to have them on you big day. Your choice. But better to find out before the big day so you’re not ruining your makeup trying to get them off if you really don’t like them!
Even if you are going for a natural makeup look, do yourself a favour and road-test them- you may be pleasantly surprised at just how great they look.
