How to Stay Chiller Than A Frozen Margarita on Your Big Day (you’re going to wanna save this for later!)

As someone who has planned my own wedding, and worked with MANY rad brides over the last 10 years, I've definitely collected some tips along the way on how to stay chill on your big day!

Weddings are a huge life event, and planning one - no matter how big or small- can be majorly stressful. Whether you try to have a laidback approach or you’re super organised, there‘s always a lot to coordinate and it can get overwhelming.

Trust me, I’ve seen it all and I’ve fallen into my own rabbit holes of stress and anxiety when planning my own big day (even though it was ultra low-key).

Freaking out and feeling like you need to control every second on your big day will make the day tense and edgy. You want your day to be as easy breezy as possible! Sure, there may be minor tiny hiccups, but they'll become part of the story and fabric of your big day if you just go with the flow and let it roll out the way it’s meant to.

No-one has a ‘perfect’ wedding day- whether it’s marred by inclement weather, slight hitches in the schedule, or forgetting something on the day- it doesn’t matter in the long run.

Don’t sweat the small stuff, and remember that your day is all about love, fun and a celebration of your relationship with your partner.

Everything else is the cherry on top of the beautiful memories that will be made - so you may as well enjoy it as much as possible!

Below I’ve collated my top 10 tips for keeping calm and chill on your big day, keeping your vendors happy, and you stress-free.

1. Don’t overload your schedule with too many things to do!

Your wedding day prep is about getting some downtime & relaxation before the big event. It's your big day - time to soak it all up. It'll go by in a flash and there's no point running around being stressed out by having a million things to do!

The more laidback and chill your plan for the day is- the better you will feel before you walk down the aisle. Please don’t plan to be in a million places, it WILL create so much stress and anxiety.

2. Enlist help where needed and delegate

This is your time to ask for help with all those last-minute things that creep up in the days before. People will genuinely want to help- let them! The peeps that love you will want to make your day as stress-free as possible and they get how special and important it is to you.

If you’re a Type A and you’re feeling anxious about surrendering control, make sure to give clear instructions & have a backup plan for something to be adjusted or fixed if needed.

3. Trust your team to work their magic!

You've spent hours researching, booking & talking to your dream team to bring your day to life.

Now is the time to hand over the reins and let them do what they do best- creating an AMAZING day for you both!

Trust them to do their job, and spend the day chilling rather than being in your head. You’ve found them and put your trust ad $$ into them for a reason- and they know what they’re doing. let them do it unencumbered and you’ll be pleasantly surpised at how amazing it all is.

4. Appoint someone to be your point of contact for the day

It's ALWAYS a good idea to have someone else be the point of contact for any last-minute questions from your guests or vendors.

Ask a trusted sibling, parent, or bestie to be the person who everyone calls on the day with those little niggling questions- NOT you!

5. Disclose any and all skin conditions of you and the bridal party

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve encountered an eye infection, a cold sore, a latex allergy, or a rogue blind pimple on the big day that I haven’t known about in advance. All of a sudden I’m on the spot trying to think of a way to deal with the issue whilst not blowing out the timeline. It’s stressful, and completely avoidable if known about upfront.

It’s really important to let your makeup artist & hairstylist know in advance of any allergies, skin conditions or special needs of your party. We’re not here to judge you- absolutely not!

Letting us know in advance will ensure we pack all the right things in our kit (including allergy-free options), PLUS ensure there’s enough time built into the schedule to be able to handle any on-the-day scenario. This step is super important and will help to alleviate any last-minute surprises or stress on the big day.

6. Don’t add extra services on the day

Most vendors will have their schedule for your big day finalised at least a week or two before your big day. They’ve quoted you on a certain amount of time, and allocated that time just for you on your special day.

Please don’t ask us to squeeze in grandma for a blowdry, or an extra bridesmate that’s just happened to fly in the day before. We’ll be so busy making sure everyone looks great and that we’re running on time for YOU. '

Even if you THINK we have time to just ‘squeeze’ someone in, doesn’t mean that this is possible. We’re often working to extremely tight deadlines on your day, and often have only packed enough brushes and tools for the number of people we’ve quoted you on.

Adding someone else on the day undermines all the time we’ve taken to carefully plan your day, and puts extra pressure on us as service providers that want to please and make your day as ace as possible. We also don’t want to handling money or sending invoices on the day, thank you very much.

7. Don’t stress about too much ‘fluffy’ stuff on the day

Matching PJs, cute shared playlists, embroidered matching slippers, portraits with all your boos in at least 4 different locations in your robes- they all sound like awesome ideas right?

Trust me, this stuff usually gets forgotten about until the last minute so there’s not much point wasting time and energy organising this stuff for your big day.

The day will go in a flash- prioritise relaxing, self-care and pampering as you get ready and enjoy all the small still moments before everything gets hectic.

8. Make sure everyone knows when they need to get hair and makeup, and when they need to be dressed by

Super important- making sure everyone in your posse knows when they are expected to be sitting in the chair on your big day.

Even if they’re 5 or 10 minutes late, this can push the schedule out big time and have us scrambling to make up the time elsewhere and move things around.

Make sure before they’re due to have hair and makeup done, they’ve had something to eat, drink and gone to the toilet/ cleaned their teeth so they don’t have to run off and do this as we’re due to start. That way, we’ll be all good and making sure they’re all done on time and not making you late!

9. Stay the night before where you plan to get ready (and have your bridal party do the same)

Stay where you are getting ready, so all you have to do is literally roll out of bed and have a shower before you start having your hair & makeup done.

Don't spend the morning panicking about getting from A to B- keep the logistics to a minimum!

10. Remember your wedding day prep is about getting some downtime and relaxation before the big event

Wedding days go from zero to 100 super quickly. All of a sudden, that day that was stretching out slowly and languorously starts speeding up, and you’re almost at the stage where you have to get your outfit on and get in the car!

Enjoy every second from the moment you wake up by reminding yourself to not sweat the small stuff. Enjoy your wedding day coffee; have a beautiful, nutritious and delicious breakfast; breathe in some of the morning air, and get ready for a day that’s full of excitement, love and joy!

The calmer you are going into it, the better your experience will be - trust me. There is no place for extra stress on your big day- surrender and enjoy it for all it is. Put away the detailed to-do list and stop checking your spreadsheets- the day is here and it’s time to enjoy it.

I hope this list of ideas for your big day helps you to prepare to slide into your wedding day feeling relaxed, prepared & ready to party!
