WEDDING MAKEUP | 7 cool and edgy makeup ideas for the alternative bride

When it comes to planning our wedding day beauty, picking a look to match our style can get overwhelming.

Makeup and hair is a form of expression and when it comes to picking the look you'll rock for possibly one of your biggest parties EVER, it can get realllly stressful trying to find something that matches your quirky and unique style.

If you KNOW you don't want traditional 'bridal' hair and makeup, and don't particularly like the idea of toning down your style to look like a 'bride' it can be hard to know which direction to head in.

We've rounded up some gorgeous, unique party looks that are guaranteed to turn heads on your big day for all the right reasons, whilst being true to your rad style.

Hint of shimmer

A hint of shimmer on the lid works a treat for brightening and enhancing the eyes. Add a rosy nude lip and a swipe of bronzer to complete the look. This also looks amazing with a bold red lip!

Bold red lips

Why not go for the wow-factor on your wedding day? With a statement red lip. Keep the rest of your makeup paired back, to really play up the pout.

Make sure you take a special lipstick with you for touch ups on the day, as it is a little more high maintenance! Or ask your make artist to give you a sample of the lippie used for you to touch up with.

Bold eyeliner

Who says bridal makeup has to be pared back? We're making a case for the smoky wing with an ashy matte shadow and hint of highlight across the cheekbones.

Dark statement lip

If the thought of a barely-there makeup look has you yawning, go for something a little bolder. This glossy smoked-out eye and burgundy lip, is the best example of sophistication meets cool-girl.

Gold lids

Give your typical cat-eye some serious lift by sketching a sparkling, gilded line right on top of it.

Silver eyeliner

For an elevated yet edgy wedding day look try using silver liner alongside black to really lift your makeup look into cosmic dimensions. Using a metallic liner is a great way to make your eyes pop without looking overly perfect, and gives a bit of a rock-and-roll vibe.

Warm smokey eyes

A smokey eye will never go out of srtyle, and in the last 5 years we’ve really seen it being embraced in bridal in a really modern way. Using warmer, more flatering tones that are softer than the traditional dark smokey eye, a warm smoked out eye look is popular with brides who want an otherwise fairly natural look; with a bit of a pop of warmth and drama on the eyes.
