MODERN LOVE | How to look iconic AF in your wedding photos
A question that comes up a lot with my brides is how to prepare for their wedding photos. This often comes up when they are in the chair on the morning of their wedding, getting glammed up and thinking about how the day will unfold.
A common theme with most of the brides I speak to is that they are more nervous about the photos than the wedding itself.
Photoshoots are a fairly foreign experience for a lot of people, and standing in front of a camera can be a vulnerable and nerve-racking time! On top of that, your wedding photos are a reflection of your day and an investment, and many couples want to ensure they get photos that truly reflect who they are as a couple; remaining an iconic reminder of their most magical day.
So I’ve asked around and penned some of my own ideas of how to prepare for your wedding day photos, so you can be in the BEST mindset to conquer them, without fear or nerves. And to make sure they’re as authentic, rad and kickass as you are!
Think about an engagement session
Having an engagement photography session will help you become more comfortable in front of the camera, which translates to better, more natural-looking photographs. Use this time to ask questions, try out outfits, makeup and shoes, and get a feel for your photographer. Plus, you’ll score some awesome engagement snaps of you and your fiancé to display during your reception!
You Do You!
You want your personalities and passions to shine through in your pics, which is what ultimately makes your wedding photos stand out and look amazing. Try to relax into it, go into it with a mindset of having fun and just spending some quality time together.
Trust Your Photographer
Trust that your wedding photographer is a pro who will capture everything you want - the dress hanging on a door, a bridal portrait in front of a window, your shoes, the rings, the quiet moments and the shared kisses. Communicate with your photographer ahead of time with any special requests or 'must have' shots, so they can be prepared. Most importantly, allow them to do their job and be creative; trust the process, and magic will happen!
Think Outside The Box
When thinking about your wedding day style and how you wanna look, take your time and do your research! Talk to friends, and browse websites and blogs you love. Don't limit yourself to browsing the obvious sources. Look to designs and styles others have created, like in film, music, design, and art.
Express Yourself
Getting hitched is the perfect opportunity to bring out the more adventurous, playful side of your style. Do what your heart desires- especially if it’s wacky and “not wedding-y"!
Don't be afraid to let your photographer know that you'd like to do something weird or off-the-wall for your bridal portraits, your first look photos or your fam bam shots. Most photogs will LEAP at the chance to get creative and make your photos more interesting!
Get Adventurous!
Who says more can't be MORE on your wedding day? Don't be afraid to wear what the hell you want, and feel amazing!
I think it’s really important not to change your personal taste on your wedding day to suit others or tradition. Couples who show personality and have the confidence to be unique and adventurous have the most fun!
Now go forth and slay your wedding photos! It’s going to be the best day of your life and the most fun you cna have with clothes on - enjoy!
